October Lightning Talks

It was a pleasure meeting you all for the lightning talks! Thanks for the presentators and the public for the questions. We had the following talks: Carine Dengler: Local LLMs for fun, profit and nonesense Nicolas Richart: Spack - a package manager for HPC that can be use on any machine Uwe Schmitt (ETHZ): pytest-regtest - a pytest plugin for snapshot testing In addition, we also discussed new projects for the RSEs at EPFL and beyond.

Zenodo

From GitHub to Zenodo: pros, cons and integration of the two platforms As researcher engineers, you understand the importance of efficient version control and collaborative development. GitHub has long been the go-to platform for managing and tracking code changes, but it lacks a built-in mechanism for long-term preservation or citation of code as a research output. This is where Zenodo becomes essential: by assigning Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) to uploads, Zenodo easily transforms repositories on GitHub into persistent, citable resources, thereby enhancing the visibility and academic impact of your work.

The Center for Digital Trust (C4DT) was excited to host our first Open Source Services Meet-Up at EPFL on March 12th. The meet-up served as an opportunity for members of EPFL’s open source community to gather and share their ideas and experiences. This sharing kicked off with lightning talks which were followed by break-out sessions encouraging attendees to exchange on the subjects that they had voted for prior to the meeting.

Kickoff Preparation

On the 5th of March 2024 we had our preparation meeting for the upcoming EPFL-RSE kickoff meeting. We were 9 RSEs from EPFL and discussed what we want for the kickoff meeting on the 7th of May. Preparation

Encouraged by the first on-site meeting of the ETHZ RSE group, a group of RSEs from EPFL are preparing the EPFL RSE kickoff event. The kickoff event will happen on Tuesday, the 7th of May 2024, 2pm. We don’t have yet the location for this event. To prepare this event, all interested RSEs are invited to join us on the March 5th, 2:15pm, BC410. The program for the March event is the following:
